On Thursday 15th March 2018 Elmhurst School caterers, AiP, worked with pupils in Years 3 - 6 to create their own smoothies using fresh fruit, yogurt, juice and honey. The children then used an unconventional method to blitz the fruit – bike power! The end result was delicious!

Year 4 have been learning all about World War 2. We were lucky enough to be visited by a lovely lady called Mrs Dunn, who had been evacuated during WW2. She spoke to the children about her experiences during World War 2 including being evacuated and rationing, where she showed them how much of certain foods they would be given for a week. The children asked her lots of questions about WW2, they were particularly intrigued by the size of the air raid shelter and how many people could fit inside. The children thoroughly enjoyed her visit and would have asked questions for hours given the chance.
We have been making Frobscottle Whizzpoppers from the BFG. We were trying to make the bubbles go down and not up! We learned the gas inside a fizzy drink is called carbon dioxide. This is what makes it fizz. We added mints to fizzy drinks and watched them explode. We recorded our predictions and results with drawings and writing. We made a yucky medicine for George's Grandma. We phoned George to tell him which ingredients we used. We learnt that oil doesn't mix with water, it separates.
